Spring sports are officially underway and one sport in particular is kicking off to a great start: varsity women's soccer. With only two official games under their belt (both games being a win) and a total of 15 goals scored, it's looking like the girls are going to have a great season ahead of them.
Although the season has just started, the team has been out practicing and working on their skills for over a month and a half now. Kennedy Holgate, one of the four sophomores on the team, says that all that work leads somewhere. “I would say that our success so far has come from the fact that we have been putting in the work. I think we have a team who really wants to win and will work to win”.
Of course behind every great team is a great coach, Coach Gladys. Gladys has been working hard with this year’s group of athletes and is happy with the season so far. Gladys has high hopes for this group of players, “the primary goal is to win the conference and get home field advantage, as is every year, and head to Raleigh [for state championships]”.
However, it may not all be a walk in the park according to junior, Annabelle Sparks “our toughest competition is probable gonna be Asheville or TC, they are always pretty solid but I think we’ve got this”.
We wish the Lady Rockets good luck this season and want them to known they will always have the support from the student section.

Basketball Season is off to a Great Start

The team has high hopes for this year like winning conference and making a good run in the playoffs. They have improved a lot from last year; the students say they have a better bond. The coach says they have a harder work ethic than last year and even more talent. The team is really excited for the season.
I spoke to one of their star players through social media and he talked about their goals this season. “Our team goal is obviously to win conference” and “My personal goal is to be the best player I can be to help my team, and give it my all on the court,” Jalen Crowder said.
They have improved a lot but they still have somethings to work on, the little things and the little plays they said. Jalen said, “We need to work on be at the right position at the right time.”
The way the team plays is amazing. They are super dangerous on the counter attack and they never stop. The team works so hard and their communication is almost perfect. They ended up beating the team by almost 40 points. I see them going super far this season.
The team needs to work some minor things but we have one of the best teams ever this season and the coach, players, and fans all see them going very far. We’re all very excited for this season.
